The Mercedes Ponton convertible ( W 180 II for those in the know) is a very elegant and tasteful premium classic car: the last handmade car from Mercedes Benz.
In 1959, the 220 S convertible cost almost twice as much as the closed four-door version. Due to the high construction cost and corresponding price, only 2,187 Type 220 S Cabriolets were built between 1956 and 1959. Almost no other car of those years spoiled the eye with such a line and fit of fine leather, expensive wood and lots of chrome. The comfortable seating position of the luxurious leather armchairs overlooking the long hood and Mercedes star delighted every driver. The trunk has plenty of room for luggage.
Luxury rarity obviously has its price: top specimens quickly cost more than €150,000 while a specimen that still needs restoration costs at least €40,000.

The car is equipped with a good shifting 4-speed gearbox. The driven mileage is no longer traceable, but the last owners have taken care of practically everything under the hood. The 6 cylinder engine jumps on smoothly and feels very powerful. The paintwork and hood are in excellent condition, with some signs of use here and there. The leather interior is still completely original and the condition of the chrome and woodwork can be called excellent as well as the fabric black convertible top. The doors close tightly and excellently.
